Summer Blog Hop - HOME

Talking about technology failure... I've almost missed my Summer Blog Hop organized by Jo from Serendipitous Stitching (check her blog for more info about this event). The theme was 'Home' and I have received the most beautiful 'postcard' from Laura of the For the Love of the Needle with a lovely story.

Laura says:
I, like Jo, grew up in the military and moved around a lot.  I was in the military myself and then married a military man so I know that feeling of having no roots.
My husband’s family were the ones who taught me about home.  I don’t know if it was the Midwestern values or if it was just the way they were but I really learned what home meant as part of that family.

This is one of the first pieces of needlework I gave to my mother-in-law.  She was always a great supporter of my craft and really had an appreciation of fine handwork.  I stitched many pieces for her over the years and upon her passing, most of that needlework was returned to me.  I’ve hung quite a few of those samplers together in my home as a kind of memorial to her and this piece in particular reminds me of her and what she taught me about home.
Thank you Laura for the beautiful picture of your work and the story. Thank you Jo for hosting this blog hop.

So long my friends,

Good morning Saturday!

It's a lovely Saturday morning in the Yukon. The sky is blue, sun is shining, swans and Canadian geese are leaving the north honking loud. I love their sound, it makes me longing to fly with them....

Last Tuesday I realized how much we are dependent on technology. Out of the blue all my networks were down - no internet, no telephone, even my cell was down. I felt completely cut off from the whole world.  I was angry and helpless - thank goodness for relaxing hobby. I grabbed my cheerful 'Good Morning' and I think I was stitching somewhat faster that usual...

It looks like I'm half way done this project as there is a lot of back stitching. I also have been working on Ol Harvest Moon and this one is almost done. You can't imagine how happy I was after I finished the moon - it was the most boring part - thousands of tiny stitches all in the same colour. This piece I'm stitching on 25ct with one strand of floss (1 over 1). I'm planning to finish it as an ornament.

It is a long weekend and I hope I can have a lot of stitching done in the next couple of days!

Just one week

One week doesn't seem like a long time but a lot can happen in just one week. I have finished my Bluenose Dime and it is looking good!

Now I have to decide how to finish it... I could frame it, make a pillow or a wallhanging - I'm not so sure yet. On the bottom right corner I've placed a real dime but it's hard to see the schooner. I've also found a beautiful story about Bluenose. Have a look, there is even a short video!

My garden has changed in one week also!

And I am five pounds lighter today than a week ago!

I'm speachless...

Have this ever happened to you? To have nothing to say... well at least I was stitching last week and have some pics to prove it. Here are my four projects:

Can you guess which one I will finish first?

So long my friends, I hope next time I will have something to talk about.

Monday, August 5

Couple of weeks went by and I feel a little better, it's true that the best healer is time. Finally my eyes has dried and brain is working again. Thank goodness, because the bills have to be paid and I'm self employed right now. I chose not to have a 9 to 5 job and if you do not have to show up every morning, it's so easy to get sidetrack... So I'm back to work 'full steam'. If all goes well maybe (and that's a big maybe) I can go for that trip across Canada this autumn. It would be so cool to see our Maritimes finally. Frosty Girl isn't taking car rides very well, she is getting car sick. Does anybody has any advice? It will be a long, long trip and many hours in the car.

Terri of This is who I am has a new challenge FAB4FOCUS. I looked on my neglected SALs and decided to go with these 4:
  1. The Russian Roster - I dislike this sampler but love the roosters and originally I wanted  to stitch just the little motifs. Well, yesterday I had another look on the whole thing and all of a sudden I realized that the sayings are the perfect conservative values that I admire so much... I made I few changes to the design and fell in love with it. Thank goodness I've started this piece on a fabric large enough to stitch the whole thing.
  2. Miss Mary Mack
  3. Ol Harvest Moon - this one I'm stitching over one with one thread on the 25 ct even weave. For some reason I wanted to make an ornament from this design...
  4. Bluenose Dime - I didn't finish it by the end of July as planned, now I'm hoping to be done with it by the end of summer.
So long my friends,
