Happy name day to me!

Yep, today is the day! It's my name day (and Mother's Day in Poland).  Most of you know how much I love to celebrate and you can be sure that today is a day of celebration. It's only 7:30 in the morning, I woke up with a headache but coffee is brewing and time to make some plans...  I will let you know later how my day went.

Mindjack Trilogy

During my A-Z Challenge I came across Susan Kay Quinn, the author of 'Open Minds'. The book sounded so intriguing, I placed it on my to-read list... Well, next day I was reading it and two days later I couldn't wait for the next one... Guess what - it came!

Announcing the release of Closed Hearts, the sequel to Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn.
Book Two of the Mindjack Trilogy
When you control minds, only your heart can be used against you.
Eight months ago, Kira Moore revealed to the mindreading world that mindjackers like herself were hidden in their midst. Now she wonders if telling the truth was the right choice after all. As wild rumors spread, a powerful anti-jacker politician capitalizes on mindreaders’ fears and strips jackers of their rights. While some jackers flee to Jackertown—a slum rife with jackworkers who trade mind control favors for cash—Kira and her family hide from the readers who fear her and jackers who hate her. But when a jacker Clan member makes Kira’s boyfriend Raf collapse in her arms, Kira is forced to save the people she loves by facing the thing she fears most: FBI agent Kestrel and his experimental torture chamber for jackers. Now available! $2.99 Ebook at Amazon (and Amazon UK) and Barnes and Noble Request a Kindlegraph Paper copies available at Amazon or get signed copies from the author

May Two-Four

Do you know what May Two-Four stands for? It's a beginning of Canadian summer celebrated with two-four case (or two, or three, or...) of beer!

Well, in the Yukon definitely isn't summer yet and definitely you can't find two-four cases of beer. For some reason stores sell only 6-packs and 12-packs. Oh, I miss Ontario! If you don't have friends you can buy just 18-pack but normally the real case of beer must be 24.

I don't think that too many people celebrate Victoria Day (for sure not in Quebec!) but many go camping and having fun with friends. Not me though... We went for a walk. It's beautiful but way, waaaay to cold for camping. (Some crazy northerners camp but they do not know any better).

Ice on the lake, patches of snow on the beach - Topaz doesn't mind at all!

The crocuses are still blooming,

some kind of yellow beauties were smiling to me

and I even found the first green leaf to be!

I know, pathetic nevertheless, I decided to hermit inside and stitch.  I tried my luck at Brazilian embroidery, I even finished the piece (just the stitching part, I have no idea what to do with it now...)

I also finished 'Great Friends':

Well, weekend isn't over yet, Freddy is just starting the fire (it is so cold today), later he will thru some burgers on the barbeque, and we'll finish the long weekend with Yukon's teenie-weenie 6-pack.

Snow!

You should see my amused face when I open my eyes this morning. Every day I was hoping to see trees covered with green buds - instead I saw at least seven inches of SNOW... It's May 16th for God's sake!

I am so tempted to stay home and stitch but the weather man is saying that later in the morning the snow will stop. I guess I should go to work earlier to skip the traffic...

First Love Blogfest

"First Loves Blogfest - on May 14, post your first loves – first movie, first song/band, first book, and first person. Four loves, one blogfest!"

Why not, I can tell you about all four...

First movie
Since I was a little girl I was fascinated with aircraft, I never played with dolls - I was making plane models... In my teens I became a glider pilot and when I saw 'The Battle of Britain" it was a love of the first site.

 First Song/band - I actually had two...

You've got to see this:

and

that was the beginning of my San Francisco dream. Years later it became a reality..

First book

Ann of Green Gables - by the age of six I new the book by my heart (in Polish!). I learned to read early - my parents were teachers...

I loved it then and I'm loving it now. Even the movie was great!

First person

Oh, my... I still remember... it was a boy in our gliding club. I was so madly in love until he quit gliding, got serious about becoming an engineer and dumped me for a French cuisine... It was Saturday morning when I got the news about his new love, I was heart broken but same Saturday I met my future husband... It didn't last long though - he never learned to fly.

It's Saturday!

Blue sky, sunshine, birds are signing - the spring finally came to the north. The lakes are still frozen, there are no green leaves yet and the grass is just starting to show here and there. In the shadow I can still find small patches of snow...

Every year it amazes me how quickly everything grows under the midnight sun. I can notice the difference with my naked eye just by looking at plants in the morning and later at the same plants in the afternoon.

The weather forecast isn't so great for today (see my local weather), looks like my beautiful sunshine will disappear soon. On the bright side, that's good - I can study for the finals and maybe stitch a little without distraction.

Reflections - A to Z challenge

It was a challenging April, I survived the Challenge! I do not have a problem of posting every day, that part was an easy one. The challenging part was my theme - ancient Egypt fascinates me but it was challenging to find words, names or places for every letter of the alphabet. Regardless of difficulty, I DID IT!!! And I loved my journey (I'm not so sure my readers enjoyed it as much as I did), I'd discover things I didn't know or forgot about... And I met new friends and some great authors. I enjoyed visiting other blogs and read little stories. I even bought 4 books written by participants. If not the challenge I would never know about them. First was Stephen Tremp and his 2 books (got both but didn't read them yet), after that I've met Whitney Boyd (and of course had to buy her book also) and while browsing other authors blogs I came across Susan Kaye Quinn website and found her book 'Open Minds' very intriguing. It's a first book in Mindjack Trilogy). Of course I bough it and I'm halfway through already.  Another author, Jeremy Bates, left me a comment asking did I read 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho. I didn't, but I found the book in my local library - I read it and I liked it. While turning pages I went on another journey, deep into my soul... I found my forgotten dream (or 'legend', as he calls it)...

The bottom line - I'm glad I joined the challenge and I will do it again next year!

Blog Hop? Sure, I'm in!

"Have you ever had a case of the “stitching blahs” where you just didn’t want to stitch? Or maybe it was more like you didn’t get to stitch because you were busy and that created a chain reaction sense of the “blahs” and led to even less stitching…. sort of like a case of “the Mondays” that we are all familiar with. How do you handle your stitching blahs and get back into stitching mode?"

Nope, never had one of those 'stitching blahs'. On the contrary, very often I'm anxious to get to my stitching. Very often can't wait to finish work so I can get home and stitch or finish that darn assignment - Oh, why o why I'm keep studying... The life would be so much easier and happier if I could just have more time for me and my stitching.
