OMG, I'm so excited! Yesterday we had a little SAL at the Stitchers Muse (some very lovely stitchers are meeting there every Sunday from noon to 4 PM) and I noticed that Nancy (unfortunately no blog) and Rachel from Stitch, Please! were tapping their tablets instead of marking charts and they had so much more room around them... You know, curiosity killed the cat, I glanced over Nancy's and Rachel's shoulder to see what they are up to... they were working from digital charts! Wow!!! I absolutely loved it. I learned from my dear friends that I need to apps
Dropbox is free and is installed on the iPad (tablet) and your computer. Then you can drop your .pdf file to it and it will miraculously appear on the iPad. Then you can open it in GoodReader (only 5 bucks with change) and then, voile!
I bet that my progress on Guardian Angel and Strawberry Thief will be tremendous this week. Who knows maybe I will put a few stitches in Strawberry Pirate too. All my HAED designs are in PDF format.
So long my friends, I'm back to stitching!

I'm partially paperless. Most of my JCS is digital.
ReplyDeleteI love stitching from digital format. Glad you've converted!
ReplyDeleteThat's great!! It is very convenient to stitch from digital charts, you can enlarge it to your requirement while stitching . I have been stitching with iPad charts for a long time and I love it. It actually was forced upon because all I could afford were digital magazine issues as getting hardcopies shipped to India were way out of my budget. But it turned into blessing :) I will also suggest you buy a floor stand for iPad. It comes with a charger and you can sit in your comfortable chair and stitch. You can see my iPad floor stand in this post. http://createwittyunleashed.blogspot.in/2014/01/another-crochet-doily.html
ReplyDeleteGreat idea - I never knew how to do this until I read your post. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteGo you! I use my iPad a lot and have tried to mark charts off on it, I personally don't get on with it.... Will keep trying though :).
ReplyDeleteI too have digital magazines and open them on my iPad, but for me I prefer paper! I print out what I want on coloured paper as I like the feel of it and can mark things off easier.
I will use the snail version!

I too have gone paperless and I love it!!! Love that I can enlarge the area I am working on.. it is great! I do use a different program than you do.. It is called Foxit and it is free....I scan my charts and save them to dropbox or Goggle drive and then open them in Foxit.....able to mark things off as I go.... It is wonderful...
ReplyDeleteSounds good, but I'm afraid I'll be old school for a long time! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat is quite amazing! I think I will look into this.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I use Dropbox on my phone, but I don't have a good marking app yet. Enjoy :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I was looking into something like this because I like to go paperless as well. Currently I just print off charts that are larger and work smaller ones from a screen. Do you find it hard to mark off the areas done if it's just a square or two? I imagine a stylus helps a LOT there.
ReplyDeleteVery clever! I use my iPad for browsing and reading blogs but not for charts. I prefer to have a paper chart to write notes about colour conversions and so on.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! The technology is moving so fast :-)

Isn't the digital age a wonderful thing... Hugs xox

ReplyDeleteI use those apps (as well as a time keeper), but I still prefer marking on paper. I had issues with it not saving what I was marking sometimes or it crashed upon occasion and I lost all my marks, so I just feel safer with paper. But it works great when you can't see a symbol good or you need a closeup of an area and I definitely use it to locate confetti stitches from grid block to grid block. It has saved me tons of thread by not having to go back because I missed a symbol!
