A whole week with no stitching...

Yep, I went to see a doctor because none of my home remedies worked on my thumb. He just did a couple of test and said: "Ma'am you have De Quervain's tenosynovitis"  (What an awful name, try to pronounce it with my Polish tongue!) and he said that I'll be all good in a couple of weeks.  For now I'm killing the pain with super strength Ibuprofen, I'm wearing a brace and can't stitch with that thing on.

But nothing will stop me from shopping! I always wanted to stitch the Moon Goddess so finally I bought it. I absolutely adore this design

and one of my stitching buddies introduced me to the Dukan Diet. Let me tell you, it's awesome! A little like the Atkins diet - has pure protein days in first phase (he calls it attack phase) that lasts anywhere from 2 to 10 days and the second phase contains proteins plus vegetables. My buddy lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks, I've lost 5 pounds in 3 days. But I love chocolate and chocolate is not on the list of allowable foods. I'm craving for chocolate.... so I bought a chart Chocolate, Chocolate and More Chocolate! I hope it will cure my cravings when I start to stitching it!

I was checking Julie's work and came across lovely design that she was working on (must have for me) "Shore Patrol"

It didn't took me long to find it! Now it is on the way to me and hopefully Canada Post will get back to work so I can receive my mail!

So long friends,

  1. Hi Evalina, I am sending you a URL to check out. What you need is a massage session. I would recommend neuromuscular therapy....but mainly because that is what I specialize in. I am sure there are other modalities that would work also. One thing is that it is not only the tendons of the thumb. It starts in the neck and works down so you will probably find that even though the thumb hurts the worst, when working the arm muscles and the neck muscles, they will be tight and sore also. Good luck to you. And hope you will be back stitching soon. PS. I also get that problem from massaging but not to that extent as getting massage helps me too.

  2. I hope your thumb is feeling better soon. Mine took tons of pt to get it under control.

Love all of the new patterns on their way to you.

I took a look at that diet and I just don't know if I could handle it in a household with others that would still be eating things I can't. Too much temptation for me I think. But who knows, I may give it a whirl. It doesn't hurt to try it out.

  5. I can well imagine how much you're missing being able to stitch but do as the doctor orders and you'll soon be stitching again:-) That's quite the contraption you have to wear, always amazes me what they have now as braces.

I agree with you, I hope Canada Post gets back to work soon, it sucks having an empty mailbox every day! lol You certainly have a few fun projects to look forward to.

I've never heard of the Dukan Diet, will have to check it out. I'm like you, I love chocolate...no wonder I need to lose weight! lol xoxo

  8. Sorry to hear the thumb isn't getting better. I took a short hiatus from stitching in college because of my tendinitis once (now it's just plain hard to stitch because of ZoƩ wanting Mommy's pretty colors).

Hoping that the post office gets to work soon too. Aren't the government workers in Canada?

  9. Hope your thumb gets better soon, had to wear a splint once which is different but was told to use my fingers so I typed to keep my fingers flexible. You sure have some large pictures to stitch on.

  10. I can understand why you love Moon Goddess. She is lovely. If I were stitching the chocolate picture, it would do the opposite for me. I'd want chocolate more than ever! I've seen Shore Patrol too and it's really nice. Do you buy on eBay? I buy most of my stash on eBay, even though I have more acc3ess than you do to local needlwork shops.
Re the diet.... I've done a similar one with the same results. The rule with it was to not eat carbs and protien in the same meal They could both be eaten, jutt not together as they each require different digestive juices and they tend to work against each other. And you eat lots of vegetables. I also cut out sugar and dairy. I lost a pound a day. Before hand, I really doubted that I could shed the extra 20 pounds I was packing around. But I did! I wish you much success on your diet!

  15. Glad I was able to enable you, Evalina. I just love that chart. Is Moon Goddess a Josephine Wall? It's gorgeous! Love chocolate. I'm a big fan too. I don't eat some every day, but maybe once a week is good enough to keep me happy. I hope you get your new chart soon. I'd go crazy if I couldn't get stuff in the mail in a couple of days!!

  16. Oh, and btw, I'm sorry to hear about your thumb. That would drive me crazy as I wouldn't be able to stitch or type properly. (Most likely, it wouldn't stop me from doing it. I just wouldn't be able to do it right!!!)

  20. Love your new stash picks - especially the chocolate!

Hope your thumb feels better soon - imposed non-stitching always makes you feel deprived.

  21. That brace looks like a torture chamber (!) but hopefully it's helping you heal so you can work on those great but huge charts! Shopping is sooo much fun!
