If I would say they are my heroes it wouldn't be the truth, the truth is that I'm fascinated by them.
The Vikings explored the northern islands and coasts of the North
Atlantic, ventured south to North Africa and east to Russia,
Constantinople, and the Middle East. They raided and pillaged, but also engaged in trade, settled wide-ranging colonies, and acted as mercenaries. They reached North America way before the Columbus and set up short-lived settlements in Newfoundland, and Labrador, Canada. I'm dying to go there and some day I will just jump in the car and go. And I love current TV series Vikings - how could you not not be impressed by Ragnar?
So long my friends,
Evalina
The Vikings are fascinating but don't know the tv series...don't have t.v. and that could be part of the problem...LOL. When I think of Vikings, I think of death and hayhem...nasty brutes they were until missionaries took the Gospel to them.
ReplyDeleteThey say we all have a touch of Viking blood in us. Those guys were everywhere, weren't they. Great to find your blog. I'll be back. Wish it had been sooner.

I love Norse mythology, their stories rival the Greek and Roman Gods.
ReplyDeleteThey really were the ultimate explorers too.
It's true that they were fascinating - innovative but brutal
ReplyDeleteOur little town is very Norwegian. We have a big Viking festival in May!
ReplyDeleteFascinating, this old people and their history.

ReplyDeleteI've not heard of the Vikings show either, but you've got me wanting to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHaving lived a lot of my young life near York (Jorvik) I was always fascinated by the Vikings and can remember going quite a few times as a young child to see them excavating the site where the Viking Exhibition Centre now stands. Can't quite believe we are nearing the end of the A to Z Challenge! Have a lovely Sunday :) Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
ReplyDeleteI love Vikings! They've always fascinated me - great pick!
ReplyDeleteI think most people have a fascination for Vikings, even if they were not exactly heroes by our standards. But they were adventurous and also curious, and they had some amazing sagas... :)

Hi Evalina - love the Vikings ... I saw the British Museum exhibition that was put on recently and wrote about a lecture I went to on Scandinavian Words and the influence they had on our way of life then and now ... it was 11 months ago. I still have the actual exhibition to write about ... I'll get there one day - it was superb and very interesting ...
