A for Anne of Green Gables (A to Z Challenge)

Here we're go again! It's April 1st and a first day of the challenge. During this month I will write about my heroes and I will start with Anne. She was one of my first ones. Anne was created by Lucy Montgomery in the book Anne of Green Gables. I read the book many times, I think by the age of 6 I almost new it by my heart. Why did I like Anne Shirley? She must be one of the most delightful characters ever written, largely because she is far from perfect. She makes mistakes, as we all do, but her mistakes are much funnier than my own and she makes me see the value in learning from each of them, laughing at them and moving on.  I love that she approaches life enthusiastically, despite have spent a decade belonging to no one. I also like that Anne talks straightforwardly about wanting, seeking and building friendships. I just wanted to be like her...

So long my friends,
Evalina

  1. You are lucky to have developed a reading habit since childhood. Some characters do stay with us for a lifetime. Great theme. Happy A2Z!

  3. Oh I remember Anne...but not from books! See I was never a good book reader. Way back there used tombe a tv program about her and what she got up to....I loved watching it as a child..
Having never been an avid book reader I do now in my later years feel I have missed out.... But realize that some people read books, others don't! My mothers can read a huge book in one day!
Happy A to Z ..... Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

  7. I wish I'd been exposed to Anne as a kid--I'd heard of her of course, but we didn't have the book. I think I would have liked Anne, too.

  8. Anne is one of my favorite characters from literature. I also read Anne of Green Gables over and over as a girl. My grandmother gave me a copy of the book with a picture of Anne that looked remarkably like me at the age of 10. I cherish that copy. Anne is plucky, and brave, and unapologetically smart. I think generations of little girls have seen themselves in her.

  9. I didn't read the books until I was an adult. I immediately bought the set for a granddaughter and it since has been passed among all four granddaughters.

  14. One of my all time faves! When I was in elementary school, the girl next door and I had walkie-talkies and I would read the book to her at night. I also loved the TV series. Great first pick for your A-Z challenge!

  15. I loved these books when I was younger. I still have the original hardcover still wearing the paper dust jacket I received from my cousin. I believe it was a gift for being a flower girl in her wedding and if not that a birthday or Christmas present.

  18. You and me both! I loved those books so much! :) I also loved that Anne seemed to find the beauty in all things around her. The end of the series broke my heart, but I still love all of it :)
    Happy A to Z!

  19. Great choice for your A! Loved the Anne books and I also read most of Montgomery's non-Anne books. She was a great story teller.

  24. What a brilliant theme. Anne takes me right back to my childhood. A bit awkward but from a good heart. I'm not sure I ever read them but lived for the tv series. Brilliant A to start your AtoZ.
